Shillong. Yet Again !!!!!!
We took the early bus from Guwahati to Shillong. It was like very early and so I was still willing to sleep. It was a bright morning. Guwahati and the rest of Assam is very humid. I knew Ma would start Pickering due to the heat and humidity. I was dripping a lot too. Papa did not seem to have any damage, I guess he was acclimatized.
I asked Dad about the time it would take to reach Shillong. He said, and I do remember this, :"Pehle Bus chalne to do". The bus took off and we were relieved as the air started oozing in trough the window. I t was a big relief.
The roue to Shillong is one of the most beautiful views I had ever seen. Although I had traversed the whole of Kashmir, but this was different. It was all lush green and to add to it, it started pouring. The sight was beautiful. We were driving on a hill and it was a steep hill. It was two hours when we reached a stop. It was a valley where we ate at a small restaurant and within twenty minutes, we had already taken off yet again.
The next two hours were more beautiful. We had reached the dam built on Bada pani. The hills were taller and the bus had to make an extra effort to climb them. Finally we entered Shillong. The town seemed to bring back lost memories. The huge churches, beaf hanging on each street and jeep. Lots and lots of jeep. after like an hour of piercing through the city, we reached our campus. Fortunately, a lot had not changed and I seem to remember most of it. We reached our mess and I dragged over to our room. The hill on which our campus is is named Umpling. The other campus is named Mawpat. We were at Umpling. It had a huge ground just next to the mess which was designed by one of the officers of the batallion.
We followed Dad and a person from the mess to our room. I was a huge room and I was so drowsy that I captured a part of the bed and went off to sleep.
It was a travel worth the effort and the pain. I was to go to my old school for admission. I didn't know if I would meet my old friends or would they remember me. If I would be as happy as I was the last time I was in S
hillong. It was yet again a new start and I was sure looking forward to it.
